FAQ
Answers to common questions
- Who actually does the repair work when I use Helpedgovernment Heating & Air?
- An independent local provider does the work. Helpedgovernment Heating & Air is a referral service. We do not repair, install, or fix anything. We help you reach a provider in our network. After that, the provider talks with you, looks at your system, and gives you a written quote. You decide if you want to hire them. Providers do the work, and the choice is yours.
- How do I pick a good HVAC provider?
- Ask a few simple things. Is the provider licensed in New York? Do they carry insurance? Will they put the price in writing before work starts? Ask if they work on your type of system. Be careful with anyone who pushes you to sign fast. A calm, clear answer to each question is a good sign.
- How fast can someone come out for emergency AC repair?
- It depends on the provider and the day. Some providers can respond quickly. Others have a busy schedule. Request a callback to check provider availability. Tell them what is wrong, such as no cold air or a loud noise. That helps them plan. Helpedgovernment Heating & Air cannot promise a set arrival time. The provider will tell you what they can do.
- What should I do before I call?
- Take a quick look first. Check that the thermostat (the wall control) is set right and has power. Check the breaker box for a tripped switch. Look at the air filter. A clogged one can cause trouble. Note the model number on the unit if you can. Write down what you see and hear. This helps the provider help you.
- Is it safe to keep using my furnace if it smells odd?
- Be careful. If you smell gas, leave the home. Then call your gas company or 911 from outside. Do not flip switches. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, go outside and call for help. For a dusty smell at the first cold day, that is often normal. When unsure, shut the system off.
- How much does HVAC repair or replacement cost?
- Costs vary a lot by job. Typical U.S. ranges are a few hundred dollars for many AC or furnace repairs. A full replacement often runs several thousand dollars or more. Home size, system type, and older ductwork all change the price. Always get a written quote before work begins. Compare it with your needs.
- When should I replace my system instead of repairing it?
- Age matters. Many AC units and furnaces last about 10 to 20 years. If yours is old and repairs keep coming back, replacement may make sense. Rising bills are another sign. Ask the provider to explain both options in plain words. Older homes with unusual layouts may need extra planning, so ask about that too.
- Does it cost anything to use Helpedgovernment Heating & Air or request an estimate?
- You can request an estimate with no obligation. You are not required to hire anyone. The provider sets its own prices for the work. Those prices should be in a written quote that you can read first. If the quote does not feel right, you can say no. Ask questions about anything that is unclear.
